Mijares Alcérreca trained in Mexico City and spent almost his entire career as Pedro Ramírez Vázquez's principal design partner rather than an independent name, co-signing the National Museum of Anthropology, the Aztec Stadium and a long list of the government buildings Ramírez Vázquez was commissioned to deliver through the 1960s and 1970s. Their working method combined a modern reinforced-concrete vocabulary with deliberate references to pre-Hispanic planning — courtyards, platforms and a processional approach to entry — argued as a specifically Mexican public architecture rather than an import. Mijares also taught architecture in Mexico City for much of his career, and continued to practise into his nineties before his death in 2015.
