Dekkers was born in Venlo, took her degree at the Eindhoven Institute of Technology in 1978 and worked at EGM architecten, joining its board in 1988, before founding Jeanne Dekkers Architectuur in Delft in January 1998. The Limburgs Museum in her home town, finished in 2000, was the first building she completed under her own name. Her work is usually organised as an argument about its site: a museum shaped as a town gate where a gate once stood, civic buildings that set curved masonry against sheer glass to separate what is old from what is new. She has built mainly for public clients — museums, schools, police stations, town halls — and has been professor of architecture at Eindhoven since 2010.
