St Peter's Church, Klippan

Sigurd Lewerentz was seventy-seven when he began St Peter's, and he personally supervised the whole of its construction. The church sits in the town park behind a low wall, an almost windowless mass of dark hard-fired brick, most of it from the Helsingborg steam brickworks. Inside there is no relief from the material: the vaults, the walls, the uneven floor, the altar, the pews, the pulpit and the bishop's chair are the same brick, and the light that reaches them is scarce and lateral. The font is a natural shell from the Indian Ocean. At the consecration on 27 November 1966, Bishop Martin Lindström said the building made "no attempt to resemble churches of past ages". The chairs in the nave were originally designed by P. V. Jensen-Klint for Grundtvig's Church in Copenhagen.
