Yusti belonged to the first class to graduate in architecture from the Universidad del Valle, in 1958, and built her career in Cali in the firm Richardson y Yusti, run with the architect Enrique Richardson. Cali's bid to host the VI Pan American Games of 1971 needed a venue for indoor sports fast, and the firm delivered a reinforced-concrete coliseum, its structural calculations by the engineer Harold Arzayús, seating some 18,000 spectators under a wide-span roof with no interior columns to block sightlines. It opened on 30 July 1971 within the sports precinct the city laid out on its western edge for the Games, alongside venues including the Alcides Nieto Patiño velodrome. Basketball's 1982 FIBA World Championship and futsal's 2016 FIFA World Cup both passed through it, and the seating was later reconfigured to an all-seater capacity of 12,000. Renovated again in 2016, the coliseum remains in daily use for indoor sport and hosts concerts by touring musicians, run today by Cali's municipal Secretariat of Sport and Recreation.
