Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park

Bangkok sits roughly a metre and a half above sea level on subsiding ground, and its drains cannot take a heavy monsoon. Kotchakorn Voraakhom and her practice Landprocess took the twenty-eight rai of ground the university released for its hundredth anniversary and designed it to flood on purpose. The park is a single inclined plane, tilted about three degrees end to end: rain lands on a planted green roof at the high end, runs down through constructed wetlands and a detention lawn that is allowed to fill, and ends in an underground tank whose water is pumped back to irrigate the park in the dry season. The model is the Thai kaem ling, the monkey-cheek reservoir associated with King Bhumibol Adulyadej, which holds runoff in the cheek for later. Completed in 2017, it is the first large public park Bangkok had built in three decades.
