Wong Mun Summ is the Singaporean co-founding director of WOHA, the practice he set up in 1994 with Richard Hassell after the two met working for Kerry Hill Architects; the name is made from the first two letters of their surnames, and the work is credited to the office rather than to either partner. WOHA began with private houses, won two Mass Rapid Transit station competitions in 2000, and drew international attention when the 1 Moulmein Rise apartment tower took the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2007. The office argues that density and greenery are not in conflict: its towers, hotels and public housing estates carry planted terraces, sky gardens and naturally ventilated circulation as structural parts of the brief rather than landscaping added afterwards.
