German engineer credited with the design of the Darul Aman Palace at Kabul, built for Amanullah Khan between 1925 and 1927 as the centrepiece of a new capital. Harten led a team of engineers within a larger group of twenty-two German and French architects the king invited to Afghanistan; French architects named in the record as A. and M. Godard are also credited with the design, so the authorship is shared rather than single. He has no Wikidata entity and almost no biography in the published literature — a gap recorded here rather than filled in, since the alternative was to leave Afghanistan out of this pool entirely. What survives of his work is a thirty-metre neoclassical block that outlived the reform programme it was built to announce.
