Janina Masojada is a South African architect based in Durban, where she co-founded OMM Design Workshop and, later, Designworkshop. In 1997 the new Constitutional Court of South Africa was put out to open international competition; more than five hundred entries were assessed by a panel chaired by the Indian architect Charles Correa, and in 1998 the commission went to Masojada, Andrew Makin and Erik Orts-Hansen of OMM Design Workshop together with Paul Wygers of Urban Solutions in Johannesburg. Their scheme took the idea of justice under a tree literally, replacing the usual colonnade with slender canted columns and reusing brick salvaged from the demolished Awaiting Trial Block of the prison whose site the court occupies. The court opened on Human Rights Day 2004. No Wikidata item exists for her; this entry is compiled from published accounts of the competition.
