Henning Larsen Architects was founded in Copenhagen in 1959 by Henning Larsen (1925–2013) and is now one of the largest practices in Scandinavia, with offices from Oslo and the Faroe Islands to Riyadh, Munich, New York and Hong Kong. Its reputation rests on cultural and educational buildings in which daylight is the primary material — a Nordic preoccupation carried into climates that have far too much of it. The Copenhagen Opera House of 2004, the Moesgaard Museum outside Aarhus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh mark the range. Harpa in Reykjavík, designed with the artist Olafur Eliasson and the Icelandic office Batteríið, won the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2013. The firm runs its own doctoral research on sustainable building design and is part of the Ramboll Group.
